Internet Rehab…
Drugs seem to have a new competitor; Internet. The internet seems to be attracting everyone in one form or another and making them spend hours seated in front of the computer. 72% of Americans use the internet and the numbers seem to be increasing every year, especially from those over 50 years of age. What is it that makes sites like myspace, Facebook, & Twitter so addicting that they’ll have you glued to the computer for hours? Is it because its a fast & easy way to always stay connected with people, or is that it just becomes a habit to get online and just type the day away? Well it seems like whatever it is, its affecting a large amount of the population. Some people don’t believe there is such thing as an internet addiction, and in fact they will even argue that if there was such thing as an internet addiction that then thered also have to be a t.v. addiction, cellphone addiction, video game addiction, ect.
Internet addiction also know as net compulsions, internet addiction disorder, compulsive surfing, web dependency is gaining more attention everyday. The internet is able to attract so many people due the wide range in variety it is used for. Internet can be used for work, school, entertainment and many other things. A couple of the activities that have part in this addiction are Cyber Sex, Cyber pornography, Online Affairs, Multi-User Role Playing Online Games, shopping (including auction sites like Ebay), Online Gambling, and extensive surfing. Sites like myspace, facebook, and twitter has become so popular that they have more people on their sites than some countires having people living in them. It crazy to think that if facebook were a country it’d be the 4th largest in the world. “Just last year myspace MySpace had more than two-thirds of the total social networking market share all to itself. Since September of 2008, MySpace has fallen 55 percent to a market share of only 30 percent– about half of Facebook”. It seems like myspace has lost alot of popularity to facebook and twitter, and it possible that by 2010 Facebook might hold the title of the leading social network. Compared to last year social network is up by 62% mostly by 18-34 year olds. That explains why all of a sudden internet addiction is becoming a highly recognized problem.
“Mental health professionals are split as to whether or not Internet addiction is real. No one seems to have a problem with admitting that some people use the internet in excess & let it interfer with their daily lives. But it seems like as if people dont want to admit that there is a case of Internet addiction going around. Internet addiction is true & is happening and people that dont want to accept it, sooner or later are going to be victims of it. It is better to know whats going on and to be prepared. Manyhave exprienced this addictition and there is a various number of approaches to this addiction such as theraphy, counsling, and many other resources.

Yes man!
In the Yes man movie the thing that most caught my eye was how the 2 main characters were able to go on and about without getting caught & how their sarcastic ridiculous ideas were left unnoticed. I thought they took a large risk in protesting to the extreme they did, but in order for any change it is our responsibility to protest against something we don’t like.

{What format did you choose? What kind of content? How did you decide? How did the tech shape your decisions?}
I chose to do my podcast video on Windows movie maker, i decided to do it on windows movie maker because my laptop already had that program & its also the program im most familiar and comfortable with. I did my video on my summer 2009, i included pictures, text, & audio. The technology shaped my decisions because if i used the program that i had more experience with and that made it alot easier for me.
Project proposal
During the course of this class we have learned to blog & have talked about many technology related topics. For my final project id like to go into futher detail about how the internet influences people to do certain things. In order to do so i will write a summary about why i think this is so & create a lil video clip and get together articles that further explain my topic.

Technology plays a big role in my life and it makes everyday task simple and easy, giving me the chance to get a number of things done in a short period of time. multi tasking with technology wasnt possible before but now with all the technological advances we have it is possible to do everything on your to-do list and still have free time left on your hands.
Internet is one of the main advances of technology. The internet has revolutionized our world completely. Now just about anything can be found or done online. Schools, stores, companies, they all have websites. You can pay bills, shop, take tests, sell and trade things, all online. The internet is important because it makes our lives easier, and it allows us to do things much faster and without so much work. It is important to be familiar with the internet because it seems like more and more everyday the internet is expanding. Many jobs require you to fill out online applications, tests for school and homework is plenty times also done online. That is when knowing how to us the internet comes handy and why its so important to keep up with technology. Then internet has had a great impact on communication. Sites like Myspace, Twitter, Skype, and facebook just to name a few are an example of how the internet allows us to communicate with anyone at anytime in a matter of seconds. Through all these networking sites people keep in touch even if they live across the street or on the other side of the globe.
Internet has affected me in a number of ways. first it has changed the way i go about or do things. I constantly started using the internet my freshman year of highschool. Before that i didnt have internet in my house and would only use it at school or the public libary. Ever since internet the internet became more common and popular i started referring to it more and more. I would refere to it for homework, social networking, entertainment and to buy things. I first made my myspace three years ago and since then i go on it atleast once a day, its a nice way to keep in touch with friends. Then a couple weeks ago i created a facebook, im still not used to it and have to learn how to use it. But the reason i made a facebook was the same reason i made a myspace just to keep in touch with friends, its a fast and easy way to get ahold of people. The internet also comes in handy with school and work. Just last week my internet didnt work for a couple days and it was terrible. It was so wierd not having the internet there, espcially since im so used to coming home, turning on my computer and having the internt handy. During those days my internet wasnt working it was harder to get things done. I couldnt do my math homework, i couldnt check my email. I would have to go over to my friends house to do my homework and all that. Im not trying to say going over to my friends house to do homework was bad or anything of that sort. What i am saying is that it was difficult not having the internet at my fingertips like i have gotten so used to having it. It was pretty rough not having the internet running since mostly everything now involves using the internet in one form or another.
Internets role in my life is quite important. I wouldnt exactly say my life revolves around it but i do depend on the internet a lot. If i have a question about something…internet, if i need to check my bank statement…internet, if i need research for an essay..internet. My concern about internet is, is it a good thing that i use the internet frequently and know how to manage my way around it. Or can it be a downside because it has made me somewhat lazy by providing everything at my fingertips and without doing much work on my part? I guess we can say the internet has its positives and negatives effects. The good side being it saves times, makes things easier, and connects people. The downside being that sometimes it creates problems such as identity theft, there can be alot of misinterpretation, and it cant always be one hundred percent reliable. Another concern i have about the internet is that too much information is sometimes displayed publicly. For example you never know who is reading what you post on the internet and your personal information is sometimes out public for anyone to read and comment on. On sites like myspace, facebook, twitter and other similar sites one has to be very careful when posting things. You never want to post anything that is personal because you never know what others peoples intentions are. Luckily theres settings where you get to decide who views your profile but there always seems to be someone finds a way around all that, so one just has to be careful.
Internet is very advanced now and it advances even more everyday. There are are millions of webpages up and running and new ones being created every minute. The internet now doesn’t only have to be used at home it can be used through phones and other devices. Just like internet has taken over books, texting has taken over talking on the phone, email has taken over writing letters, ipods have taken over cd players and so forth. Soon it seems like technology is going to take over the world. Internet has changed the world already and im sure in the future it will bring even more beneficial changes
*I changed the introduction & Conclusion. I was more specific in both the intro and ending and took out any useless info in the body paragraphs, so that the reader could better understand that the main aspect of my essay is the internet and how it makes life much easier.

Little brother
What makes little brother important is that a young boy is so well exposed to technology. A scene in the story that illustrates this point is when he has to hack into the system and create an underground internet to fight back, because of this he gets in a lot of trouble and even goes into prison.
